[Image description: an anonymous scumbag vegan has left an ask for shorm. They clearly don’t believe in their arguments enough to attach a face to their name. The message reads: “What makes you think you are above other lifeforms? Why can’t you fight for equality for both. Whatever.” End description.]
Because I don’t want to give cows the right to vote.
No, but seriously, anyone who espouses this ~equality for all lifeforms~ bullshit has not really sat down and thought about what they’re doing. You are putting the fight for animals above the fight for humans. You are saying that it’s most important that we stop eating cows, completely fucking ignoring all the points that I’ve already gone over (disability, food deserts, lack of money/time/knowledge/energy, dietary needs, culture, and I’m sure there are more reasons beyond “I want to” for people to eat meat). You’re saying that animal’s body autonomy is an equally bad problem as racism that means that police are killing black children, as transphobia that leaves trans* people (and overwhelmingly trans* women of colour) dead or in jail or beaten to a pulp [or some combination of the above], as homophobia and transphobia that means that a huge proportion of LGBTQ* kids attempt/commit suicide, self-injure, and/or are homeless, as ableism that tells huge swathes of the population that they’re less than human and are still just “mentally children” or that makes it incredibly hard for them to lead their life normally because corporations’ bottom lines are more important? How the FUCK can you look at all the bullshit that happens between humans and go HEY I’M GOING TO GO YELL AT SOMEONE WHO’S EATING A BURGER TODAY?
Also, for the record, if you have EVER used the phrase “cruelty-free lifestyle”, you should go swallow a sword or five and/or go google the state of the (largely undocumented) workers’ lives who harvested your ~organic free-trade cruelty-free quinoa/kale superfood smoothie mix~.
Okay wow it’s almost 2 AM and I’m in a bad fucking mood.
Can I just begin with how cool and ~~~funny~~~** you are for that cows can’t vote joke! Wow!!!!!! I mean, because we trying to stop them from being killed, we might as well marry them, eh?!!?! LoooLLLL!!!
Why thank you! I didn’t really think it was all that clever, but I’m glad someone was amused.
Do you have selective reading? Do you own a dictionary? I mean, clearly not since you’re speaking right out of your ass instead of fucking English. “Why can’t you fight for equality for both,” they asked. Not, “wow drop everything you’re doing forever to eat a salad at a cow sanctuary and never leave.”
There was more context on my blog before this, saying that to be a feminist you had to be vegan, no exceptions, comparing the dairy industry to rape, etc etc.
Because, opting for some rice or noodles instead of a burger clearly means that. Because there isn’t a single vegan that tries to raise awareness of human issues as well. Nope; none of us are feminists, egalitarians, or social justice advocates. We just set you all on fire and watch merrily with our cow companions.
I’m not sure where you’re reading me say you can’t do both. I’m saying that you don’t have to be vegan to be a feminist. (Admittedly, I was also not expecting this post to hit 100+ notes, so I figured everyone who saw it would have said context.)
Yeah, that’s the entire fucking point of advocating veganism- to make it available.
Actually, from what I’ve seen, the entire fucking point of advocating veganism is to make everything else unavailable. If what you’re pushing is for freedom of choice when it comes to food and veganism being a viable option, you might want to start with tackling things like food deserts and low-income areas of cities having shitty access to grocery stores.
As for those with actual bodily issues, do you really think that’s who we’re trying to convince? Your goddamned able ass only whines and uses them as a fucking excuse for you not to go vegan.
Actually, I’m currently in the middle of figuring out what, exactly, is wrong with my GI system, so it’s entirely possible that I won’t ever be able to go vegan. But at the moment, I’m not using them as an excuse for anything - I’m using them as an example of someone who can not go vegan, as I’ve often heard - including yesterday, on my blog - “everyone should go vegan”, “there isn’t anyone who needs to eat meat”, etc.
That is a discussion that would be between them and their doctor if it ever fucking happens, I can’t say shit to them because I don’t know exactly what their genetics dictate, that much is obvious, and neither can your ass. Do you really think that making them the damsels in distress helps them? Goddamn you carnists. You make as if they can’t even think for themselves. They ARE STILL PEOPLE, and will make the choice if they please, and they must be without pressure from able-bodied people.
… Most of the ~pressure~ I’ve seen about people’s diets has been from vegans. Who, again, are usually arguing that it shouldn’t be a ~choice~, or at least not an equally-weighted one. I’m really not sure we’re on opposite sides here if you’re arguing that it should be an available choice.
I’m really fucking sick of being treated like I simple ~~~*can’t~~~* be vegan because white people like you fucking think that it would betray my culture and my health issues would explode. Newsflash? Fuck you.
I don’t even know how to respond to this, tbqh. I’m not saying that every PoC ever can’t because it would betray their culture - I’m saying that there are cultures where eating meat is significant. Same thing with disabled people.
And bring me a number even close to 150 billion killed yearly. Please, I beg you. And quite honestly, do you really think the people that bash in a newly born calf’s head and those that are fucking violent towards any human groups are unrelated? The same guys that slit an animal’s throat and laugh would NOT mind doing it to a human. Simple as that. We target ALL forms of bigotry; they ******ALL***** need to end. Thought I’d highlight that for you, just in case, you know, you forget to read any part that you can’t insult.
okay, see, here’s where we split ways. I pretty much agree with most of what you wrote up there, except that you don’t seem to, uh, experience vegan culture the same way that I, and apparently a fair amount of Tumblr, do.
You are saying that humans and non-human animals are the same. This is the fundamental flaw of your argument. Please come back to me when cows or chickens have created complex societies and cultures and have cow!bigots. Or, hell, when they’re sapient.
Yes, I think there are problems with the food industry. Yes, I think that there needs to be a LOT done with the meat industry to improve the quality of the animals’ lives. No, it is not on the same level as bigotry against humans.
So today I got to yell at you for being a carnist dumbass, at my sexist shitstain uncle, and at a few racist comments. gASp!!! DID I REALLY DO ALL OF THEM WITHOUT EXPLODING? THAT’S RARE CAUSE I’M USUALLY HUGGING FUCKING COWS!!!!!
oh my god you actually just called me a carnist
i legitimately thought that was something that people made up to make fun of pressed vegans
But yeah, no, again, I’m not saying that vegans can’t be concerned with social issues. I’m saying that demanding that all people concerned with social issues be vegans is ridiculous.
Of course I know there’s cruelty in pretty much ALL food. Unless, you are REALLY rich and can afford a box of local peaches for $50. Oh no, looks like I’m going to have to bold it again so your dumbass doesn’t skip over this.
I’m really confused as to why you keep saying that I’m skipping over things. o_O
Let’s talk about YOUR food origins. The meat industry IS NUMBER ONE STATISTICALLY IN ***HUMAN** CRUELTY. Yeah, go tell those workers that stay in filthy conditions covered in shit and disease, in the dark with barely any ventilation, with fucking random saws and meat grinders flying in their fucking faces, with the highest rates of PTSD, that you eat meat for the good of humans. Those workers that are usually immigrants being given the shittiest jobs possible. Go argue with the US Bureau of Labor Statistics that you’re helping humans. And not to mention meat is just the middle man. How about all those people who got kicked off their land and sometimes killed, so that more abused workers could harvest the grain for your ***~~~~precious steak~~~~***. The point is to live by inflicting the absolute least cruelty as possible, for humans AND non-human animals. That’s what eating vegan does.
Which is why I want reform for the food industry in general. Focusing on the meat industry is a cop-out to make you feel better about yourself. I’m aware that the meat industry is pretty shitty - although I’d like to see a source about the meat industry being the worst as far as human cruelty? I haven’t heard that before, but I’d love a link to back it up for the next time I talk about the state of the food industry.
So, you made that huge speech about how vegans obviously only run in fields of money with their cow friends, so you could still feel like a ~~~**good person~~~** whilst causing the most amount of pain for humans and animals alike, because wow bakON iz GUUd loLEz!!!! D’awww, nice try buddy. You’re just adorable, trying to defend animal cruelty, worker abuse, and all forms of bigotry.
Oh wow are you horrible at putting words in my mouth. o_O Care to provide quotes for any of these things? And not “this is what I got out of this”, actual quotes. Include the part about defending the meat industry (since I’m assuming that’s what you mean about animal cruelty and worker abuse), since I didn’t actually talk about the meat industry in that post at all, and talking about the food industry at all was in an aside specifically about people who say that vegan is “cruelty-free”.
Btw, you say that anon was preachy and ha. Making a huge rant out of two sentences of calm discontentment with a “whatever” must make you feel so cool and tough. thosre daM n veGA ns!!!! THAt’ll shoW EM FOR TALKING!! So, I must equal out the assholery. On that note, fuck you.
Again, context. It’s a wonderful, wonderful thing. Also lol this made me feel neither cool or tough. I’d actually forgotten about it this morning until I noticed that it had been reblogged a bunch.
Why am I an asshole, again? And why do you feel the need to resort to “thosre daM n veGA ns!!!! THAt’ll shoW EM FOR TALKING!!” and personal jabs to “even it out”?
Take your head out of your fucking ass cause you obviously have no idea what the fuck you’re talking about. So go on, I humbly invite you to, go on and tell me about the burger you’re so proud of eating,
in my defense, it was pretty delicious

also, please cut out the condescending bullshit, holy fuck
because obviously you think it’s so cool to laugh at human and animal abuse. Go eat shit.
Actually, the entire post you commented on was specifically talking about how vegans tend to ignore human abuse.
Oh wait.
You literally fucking do :))))))
Actually, if I do, it’s trace amounts and it’s more likely to be manure on plant matter that I eat than in meat products
Shorm for President 2012. Y/Y?
