I Honor Yvonne Wanrow (Colville)

In 1973 Yvonne Wanrow was sentenced to 20 yrs based on a charge of second-degree murder and first-degree assault. Wanrow shot and killed a man who attempted to sexually assault her son. The incident involved two children, her son and a young girl. The young girl was previously raped by the same man in which she contracted an STD. The man lured the children into his house, but they managed to escape before he could harm them. As the children went home, their mothers and close family members stayed with the children all night protecting them. In the middle of the night the man and a friend of his found their way to the house where the children were being protected. During the confrontation Wanrow used her gun to shoot both men, killing the man who was after her son. She was then sentenced to her 20 yrs by an all white jury. But she fought for her right to defend the well being of her son and the young girl. Seven years after the incident and countless struggles of media stereotyping, Wanrow plead guilty and received 5 years probation.
We honor this fierce and strong woman for her bravery and conviction to never give up for what she knew was right.

An Idaho man has been charged with assaulting a minor after he allegedly uttered a racial slur and slapped a 2-year-old boy who cried on a Delta plane as it began the final descent into Atlanta, court papers show.
The boy’s mother, Jessica Bennett, 33, of Minnesota told the FBI that she and her son were seated in row 28, seat B, on February 8 on Delta Flight 721 that originated in Minneapolis, according to an FBI agent’s affidavit filed in U.S. District Court in Atlanta this week.
The boy began crying because of the altitude change, and his mother tried to soothe him, court papers said.
Then Hundley, who was seated next to the mother and son, allegedly told her to “shut that (‘N word’) baby up,” according to court documents.
Hundley then turned around and slapped the 2-year-old in the face with an open hand, which caused the child to scream even louder, the affidavit said.
The boy suffered a scratch below his right eye, court papers said.
Other passengers on the plane assisted Bennett, and one of them heard the slur and witnessed the alleged assault, the affidavit said. The plane landed at Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson International.
And people wonder why I have no sympathy for old white people who are sitting, eating, etc alone.

- Urging the Chinese authorities not to implement Li Yan’s death sentence;
- Calling on them to ensure that Li Yan has access to her family;
- Urging the National People’s Congress to introduce a legal procedure for requesting clemency in line with China’s obligations under international human rights law
- Urging the Chinese authorities to take all allegations of domestic violence seriously, conduct effective investigations and, where there is sufficient admissible evidence, prosecute suspects in fair trials.
